A Real Estate Buyers Guide To Kauai

If you are thinking about purchasing real estate in Hawaii, there are numerous options to choose from. However, Kauai real estate is a great choice for many reasons. The island of Kauai was formed six million years ago and is the oldest, northernmost of Hawaii’s main islands. It is 550 square miles and is located approximately twenty minutes from Honolulu if traveling by air. People have been vacationing in Kauai to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life for a long time. The island is secluded and serene with natural beauty abundant. There are no buildings allowed over forty feet, so you will not have the big city feel that is evident in other Hawaiian islands that are geared for a more tourist industry. It is no wonder Kauai real estate is on the rise. People are naturally drawn to the area and love the beautiful surroundings. Not only does Kauai boast the quiet beauty of the natural surroundings but there are also many activities and attractions for vacationers and residents alike.

Whether you want to choose Kauai real estate for a vacation home or your main residence, you will be pleased with all there is to offer. For outdoor activities, there are many fun things to such as golf, horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving and camping. Golfers will be pleased with the courses that are available. Some of the most challenging courses in the world are located on the island of Kauai and for people looking for golf Kauai real estate, this is a great option. There are many places to go horseback riding and hiking for a day in the outdoors enjoying the scenery. For family fun or a romantic getaway, camping at one of the island’s parks is enjoyable. Kauai is renowned for their clear water and temperate climate which makes it ideal for sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving and boating.

For sight seeing and exploration, Kauai has an abundance of historical landmarks and attractions. There is Captain Cook’s monument located on the west side of the island along with Russian Fort Elizabeth, Salt Ponds and Hanapepe Valley Lookout. The north shore has some of the most breathtaking scenery on the island and is where Kauai real estate is most expensive. Hanalei Valley Lookout is located on the north shore and is one of the most famous island destinations for a beautiful view. On the Coconut Coast is the famous Sleeping Giant, also known as Nounou Mountain, where legend has it that a giant ate so much and the villagers tired of feeding him so tricked him into eating rocks. The giant was so full, he went to sleep and has yet to wake up.

Kauai real estate is not cheap with the average house going for approximately three quarters of a million dollars. Condominiums are also pricey averaging nearly half a million dollars. Approximately twenty percent of the Kauai real estate market is comprised of people who are second home buyers. Most of these home buyers are looking to purchase homes to keep for the long term and are not looking to make a profit for an investment. Kauai real estate is more for the home owner and though there is tourist activity on the island, it is not nearly as busy as Maui or Oahu. There are also building standards which make high rise hotels non existent on the island which lends to a homier feel. This atmosphere makes Kauai real estate very desirable for people who want a second home where they can relax and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii without the hustle and bustle of a major tourist city.

One of the main advantages to Kauai real estate is that the island has not lost its original Hawaii charm. The beaches are still pristine and the ambiance retains much of what the Hawaii of old used to be like before the big hotel chains and resorts turned it into a tourist attraction visited my many throughout the year. Although Kauai still has some tourist activity, it is not nearly as busy as Oahu and Maui. Even the night life is not hat busy. There are some hotels and fun things to do but you will not have a wide variety of places to stay up all night. The food on the island, though, is wonderful with many nice restaurants featuring native cuisine with a price range to suit every budget. The island of Kauai is a wonderful place to have a home or vacation house for people who want to enjoy the beauty of Hawaii in a more secluded and serene atmosphere.
